How's that for ENERGY!!!
In 1999 I was dying. The three-headed monster of obesity, diabetes and heart disease that had killed so many loved ones had caught up to me. I weighed nearly 300 pounds and had been diagnosed with diabetes.
The news was devastating to me that at just 33 years old I was already running out of time.
I was determined to break the chain. I would be the last diabetic in my family. I researched, met with nutritionists and increased my physical activity.
Changing my dietary habits was far from easy. Many low-sugar and low-carbohydrate products use ingredients whose side affects were worse that going without.
Then my sister-in-law mentioned this little baker on Main Street in Salem, NH. Based on my previous experiences with dietary products I was very suspicious. They generally tasted awful or weren't as "low carb" as was promised. I met Mohamad for the first time one Sunday afternoon. The shop though small was packed with people who were eagerly awaiting all sorts of treats that looked impossibly good.
I read all the information and made some choices and brought them home, still not sure if the items could be as good as they looked. I checked my blood glucose level and tried three of the cookies. They were every bit as tasty as they looked. An hour later I checked my blood glucose level again and there was very little change!
I incorporated Mohamad's products into my diet, enjoying the muffins for breakfast and the cookies and the ice cream in moderation of course but with delight every time.
As the pounds melted away my health started recovering. I stopped needing medication. My endurance came back and I started studying taekwondo with Grandmaster Roger Rodriguez at Dracut Martial Arts in Dracut, MA.
In 2008 just before leaving to compete in an international tournament in Korea, my doctor informed me of the results of a recent blood test. Through exercise and healthy diet I had resolved my diabetes. I was no longer a diabetic.
Today I am a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo who is preparing for his third degree belt test soon. In October I competed in the American Taekwondo Championships and added two more gold medals to my collection.
Thank you Mohamad Chatila for creating bakery products that contributed to the process that helped me go from a 300 pound diabetic to an athlete with a pile of medals and trophies.
